Edward B. Sims | CIC | Chief Executive Officer
Ed Sims has been in the insurance business for more than 30 years and was one of the first insurance brokers nation-wide to recognize the importance of focusing exclusively on the healthcare industry. In 1987, Ed acquired the Robert M. Sims Insurance Agency from his father. It was under his supervision that the business doubled in size and merged with the Tennessee Insurance Services in 1994, forming a new company called TIS Insurance Services which now serves 6,000 individuals and businesses in 45 states. As a president and stockholder of TIS, Ed heads HealthCare Services, the agency’s largest division and the one that he started. He holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
Taylor Preston | President, HealthCare Services
Taylor began work in the insurance industry after graduation from the University of Georgia with a degree in risk management. After a brief stint with the Travelers Insurance Company from 1992 to 1993, Taylor joined TIS in early 1994 to head up the Atlanta, Georgia LTC office. His primary responsibilities were the procurement and further development of TIS’ LTC business in that state. After great success in developing the Georgia marketplace, Taylor was asked to join in the TIS ownership in 2004. Today, Taylor is solely responsible for sales production for health care accounts exclusively, and serves as President of HealthCare Services and an owner and Board Member of TIS Insurance Services, Inc. He has been instrumental in the growth, guidance and maturity of the HealthCare Services Division with now close to 20 years of dedicated experience in the healthcare arena. HealthCare Services now services P&C premiums in excess of $100,000,000.
Robert W. McMillin | Vice President, HealthCare Services
Rob graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree in Business Administration Finance in 1998. He began his working career in the banking field with First National Bank in Knoxville before learning the insurance industry with P&C Risk Services in 2000. In 2001, Rob joined TIS as a broker and received further training at The National Alliance/Chubb Insurance Group Broker Training School in Somerset, NJ. Upon completion, Rob joined the HealthCare Services Division at TIS where his sole responsibility is as a sales producer and developer of new healthcare accounts.
John Sims | Vice President, HealthCare Services
A graduate of the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, John received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Finance in 2006. He began his professional career at Brentwood Services in sales and marketing focused on workers’ compensation self-insured business throughout the southeast. In 2007, John joined TIS HealthCare Services as a producer and is currently working towards his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. John’s primary role as a sales producer is to market new healthcare business throughout the country.
Shelly Morgan | ARM, CIC | Senior Account Executive
Shelly joined TIS in March 2000 as an Account Executive, and is responsible for servicing new business as well as existing accounts within the Healthcare Services Team. She worked eight years for a long-term care facility in the areas of insurance and risk management. Shelly graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in finance. She has earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations.
Jennifer Kinley | Vice President of Benefits | HealthCare Services
Our Account Executive began her career as an Account Manager with a Third Party Administrator in SC, following her graduation from Winthrop University in 1996. In 1999, she moved to Knoxville, TN to pursue an Account Executive position with Kanahwa Healthcare Solutions before making a career advancement to Director of Sales & Marketing for a managed care company owned by Baptist Health System. Jennifer joined TIS over 4 years ago to build upon the Healthcare Services Division for Employee Benefits and has been successful in working with clients who specialize in the Healthcare industry. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Knoxville Association of Health Underwriters and is currently pursuing her Registered Health Underwriter designation. She has over 14 years of experience in Employee Benefits.
Matt Wolverton | Employee Benefits Division Consultant
Matt began work in the insurance industry after graduating from the University of Phoenix with a Master’s degree in business administration and with special focus on financial operations. Before joining TIS in 2012, Matt worked for over 18 years in the business and financial analysis fields for two private, multi-national corporations. During his work, Matt has taken on leadership roles specializing in new client growth, cost cutting initiatives, compliance reviews, organizational restructuring, acquisition diligence, and risk management. Today, Matt is responsible for sales production for health care accounts exclusively. He has been successful in growing the HealthCare Services Employee Benefits division by over 20% since joining TIS, which now services over $40,000,000 in premium.
Karen C. Anderson | BSN, RN, MBA, CIC | Director HealthCare Services Division
On January 1, 2011, Karen joined our team as Director of HealthCare Services Division. She transitioned out of a dual role at TIS serving as Account Executive, managing loss sensitive national accounts and Marketing Director for the Agency, managing relationships and business planning with insurance carriers, Producers and our TIS Marketing Division. Karen is a Registered Nurse with experience in Intensive Care and Cardiovascular nursing. Additionally, she has sixteen years with Travelers Insurance including Claim, Medical Case Management, Preferred Provider Medical Network Product and Workflow management, Claim Performance, National Claim Account Executive/Risk Management and Underwriting large deductible programs. Karen has a BS in Education with a minor in Public Health; BSN in Nursing from Illinois State University and an MBA from University of Tennessee. She has earned her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation.
Traeon Beicher | RNB-C, ARM, HRM, CWS, FCCWS, WCC | Director of Risk Management Support Services
Traeon (Tra) Beicher, RNB-C, ARM, CHRM, CWS, FCCWS, WCC, a consulting and testifying expert in health care litigation, is the Director of Risk Management Support Services for TIS Insurance Services, Inc., Healthcare Services Division in Knoxville, TN. She is a registered nurse certified in gerontology, with designations of Associate of Risk Management, Certified Healthcare Risk Manager, Certified Wound Specialist, and is fellow level at the Collage of Wound Specialist. With 32 years of experience in the healthcare profession, Ms. Beicher’s responsibilities have spanned the areas of clinical nursing, administration, quality improvement, risk management and litigation management. In addition, she is a recognized speaker about the interrelationship of clinical nursing, risk management and legal outcomes, making presentations for health care associations at both the national and local levels. She is the author of A Facility-Based Risk Management Program: A Practical Guide for LTC Providers and Defensive Documentation for Long-Term Care: Strategies for creating a more lawsuit-proof resident record.
